2026 IDS Summer Intern – Targeting & Next Best Actions (TNBA)
The Summer Associate will serve as a business-facing associate within the Targeting & Next Best Actions (TNBA) team, supporting the expansion of advanced targeting and engagement capabilities across all field teams, including medical field teams, account managers, and other customer-facing roles.
This individual will work with US-based TNBA leaders and cross-functional partners to understand field team priorities, identify high value use cases, gather and translate business requirements for delivery teams, and support the rollout and adoption of new capabilities. The role is highly collaborative and focuses on strategic engagement, requirements definition, governance, and change management.
The Summer Associate will help ensure that new dynamic targeting and Next Best Action capabilities are aligned to strategic imperatives, compliant, and adopted by the field, ultimately improving how Novartis engages healthcare providers and supports patients.
Major Activities
Business Engagement & Requirements Gathering
• Partner with field stakeholders (e.g., medical field teams, account managers, sales leadership) to understand their strategic objectives and day to day needs.
• Conduct structured interviews, workshops, and working sessions to capture business requirements for targeting and NBA capabilities.
• Document and refine business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria in a clear, structured format.
• Help prioritize use cases and features based on business value, feasibility, and timelines.
2. Capability Deployment & Coordination
• Translate business requirements into actionable inputs for analytics and engineering teams responsible for development and operations.
• Track progress of capability build and deployment, supporting project managers and TNBA leads with status updates and issue logs.
• Coordinate cross functional touchpoints among TNBA, Data Science, Decision Engine, CRM, and Omnichannel partners to ensure alignment.
• Support preparation of materials (e.g., decks, briefs) for governance forums and leadership reviews.
3. Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
• Work with TNBA leads to route capabilities and use cases through appropriate compliance, medical, legal, and data privacy reviews.
• Help maintain documentation of business rules, decision logic, and role guardrails to support compliant field use.
• Identify and track key risks and dependencies (e.g., data readiness, timelines, change impacts) and support issue escalation and mitigation planning.
4. Change Management & Adoption Support
• Contribute to change management plans, including stakeholder mapping, communication cascades, and training needs.
• Help develop user friendly materials (e.g., field playbooks, FAQs, training decks) that explain what the new capabilities are, how they work in practice, and how they help field teams succeed.
• Support feedback collection from pilot and early adopters and synthesize insights to inform capability refinements and future releases.
5. Measurement, Reporting & Quarterly Updates
• Assist TNBA leads in preparing quarterly updates on dynamic targeting and NBA deployment progress across brands and field teams.
• Help track key adoption and performance indicators (e.g., capability coverage, usage patterns, qualitative feedback).
• Summarize insights, risks, and opportunities into concise updates and storytelling for senior stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
Education
• Actively pursuing a Graduate degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline such as:
o Business, Economics, Public Health, Health Policy, or Management
o Data Analytics, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, or related fields
o Other Social or Life Sciences disciplines with strong interest in healthcare and analytics
Functional Skills
• Strong analytical thinking and comfort working with data, dashboards, and basic quantitative concepts.
• Ability to structure ambiguous problems, break them into components, and synthesize findings into clear recommendations.
• Proficiency with core business tools: PowerPoint, Excel, and familiarity with visualization or reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
• Ability to quickly learn the basics of targeting, segmentation, and customer engagement concepts in a commercial or medical context.
Soft Skills & Mindset
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex concepts for non technical audiences.
• Strong stakeholder management skills: comfortable engaging with diverse teams and asking clarifying questions.
• High degree of ownership, curiosity, and willingness to operate in a fast paced, evolving environment.
• Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working on cross functional teams spanning business, analytics, and technology.
Preferred Competencies
• Prior experience (internships, projects, or coursework) in:
• Healthcare, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or consulting
• Customer engagement, CRM, or marketing/field operations
• Business analysis, requirements gathering, or project coordination
• Familiarity with any of the following is a plus (not required):
• Basic SQL, Python, or other analytics tools
• Change management, design thinking, or journey mapping methods
• Working with international or distributed teams (e.g., US–India collaboration)

• Support the expansion of dynamic targeting and Next Best Action capabilities across brands and field teams, helping the organization move toward more precise, data driven field engagement.
• Enable better alignment between field strategies and TNBA capabilities by translating real field needs into clear, actionable requirements.
• Help ensure that new capabilities are compliant, well governed, and adoptable, increasing trust and usage among field teams.
• Contribute to building scalable processes and playbooks for how TNBA partners with business and medical field teams—foundational for future roles and org scale up.
Location: East Hanover, NJ (Hybrid)
Pay Rate: (W2 Only - based on Education and Experience)
Masters $35.00/hour

MBA $43.00/hour
