About the role
As part of the Chemical and Analytical Development (CHAD) organization, you will join the Biocatalysis / Protein Engineering Team to unlock the next breakthroughs in biocatalysis. As a highly motivated analytical lab technician, you support and expand the development of biocatalytic processes across Novartis. Our success will have a direct impact on the sustainability of the future productions processes of Novartis. The position is a perfect opportunity for you as enthusiastic scientist to apply your own expertise in an exciting and innovative pharmaceutical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analysis of samples for a variety of compound classes including small molecules, oligonucleotides and proteins using HPLC-UV, HPLC-MS, SFC, GC-FID, GC-MS, LC-MS and RapidFire-MS
  • Interpretation of the resulting analytical data, if needed using statistical tools
  • Documentation of analytical raw data utilizing a specific LIMS system to track samples and analyses
  • Development of analytical methods using HPLC-UV, HPLC-MS, SFC, GC-FID, GC-MS, LC-MS and RapidFire-MS
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment
  • Assistance for the development and execution of assay to support enzyme screenings in high-throughput (HTP) format

Minimum Requirements

  • Lab technician (apprenticeship) or BSc/MSc level in analytical chemistry or analytical biochemistry, ideally with at least 4 years of relevant experience
  • Solid hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and excellent understanding of analytical separation, detection, and measurement concepts
  • Experience with small molecule detection using LC-MS and GC-MS strongly preferred
  • Fluent in English, basic knowledge of German considered a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and documentation competence (e.g. record keeping, lab notebook, reports)
  • Ability to prioritize activities and process multiple tasks in a highly parallel manner in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with openness to work in an international and multidisciplinary team
  • Basic statistical and computer skills
  • Curious personality with “can do” attitude and an ability to adapt and learn
